As we ready ourselves for the big feast this Thursday, we will pause and pray in thanksgiving for the blessings that God has bestowed upon us. Today it is my turn to offer my gratitude to you, whose servant hearts and beautiful presence help this ministry of care and consolation to flourish in this parish.
I am grateful:
For the 70 extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion and all who serve each week to bring the true presence of Jesus to those in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and to our parishioners at home or in the hospital. Many hours are devoted to meeting the pastoral care needs in this transitional time of life.
For Jean Morris and her team of volunteers, especially the faithful Frank and Rita Blateri, who cook, serve, clean, and exude hospitality through the Celebration of Life Luncheon after a funeral. They serve with such grace no matter what number or situation appears.
For the prayer shawl ministry, led by Karen Smith. These ladies have upped their meetings this fall to gather and create warm, beautifully crafted shawls for those in need of our love and prayers. We were able to offer them as consolation to many who attended the All Souls Mass this month, and more and more in our parish. (If you need one to give, they are in the marked cabinet in the Maroon Center, just inside the door.)
For all of you who pray for those on the prayer list and for those who have died, who call us to tell us someone needs care, who exercise your own ministry of care and consolation by extending your compassion to those you meet.
